Short version: this site doesn't want your data. It wants your email, if you'd like to give it.

What this site collects
lianashford.com is a set of static pages. It has no account system, no comment section, no shopping cart, and no analytics or advertising scripts. It does not set cookies of its own and it does not build a profile of you.
Like nearly every site on the internet, the hosting provider (Vercel) keeps standard server logs — IP address, browser type, pages requested, timestamps — for security and to keep the site running. Those logs are not used to identify readers or to market to them.
If you subscribe to the newsletter
The mailing list — The Ledger — is hosted by Substack. When you enter your email in the signup box on this site, that address goes to Substack, not to me, and it's governed by Substack's Privacy Policy and Terms of Service. I receive your email address and any name you choose to give, and I use it to send you the newsletter. Nothing else.
If I ever use a different mail provider, this section will be updated before that happens, not after.
If you email me
Messages sent to hello@lianashford.com are handled by Cloudflare's Email Routing service, which forwards them to a private inbox that only I read. I keep them for as long as it takes to reply and to remember the conversation, and no longer than that.
Writing to me does not put you on the mailing list. Being on The Ledger is a separate, deliberate act — you either type your address into the signup box or you don't. Nobody gets subscribed as a side effect of asking a question.
Unsubscribing
Every email has an unsubscribe link at the bottom, and it works the first time. If it doesn't, reply to any issue of The Ledger and ask me to remove you by hand — one line is enough. You never have to explain yourself.
Third parties and links
The newsletter signup box on this site is an embedded frame supplied by Substack, which may set its own cookies when it loads. Chapters are also published on Wattpad, and some pages link out to X and to other sites. Once you leave lianashford.com, those sites' own privacy policies apply, and I don't control what they do.
Your data, and how to get rid of it
You can ask me what I hold about you, ask me to correct it, or ask me to delete it. Write to hello@lianashford.com with the word "privacy" in the subject line, or reply to any issue of The Ledger — nothing more is required. I answer these first. If you're in Canada, this is handled in the spirit of PIPEDA; if you're in the EU or UK, in the spirit of the GDPR. Asking to be deleted won't affect anything else, because there isn't anything else.
Children
This site isn't directed at children under 13, and I don't knowingly collect personal information from them. The books are written for an adult audience.
Changes to this page
If this policy changes, the effective date at the top changes with it. This is a placeholder written for a site that genuinely collects almost nothing — if that ever stops being true, this page gets a lawyer's eyes on it before it gets published.
